Welcome to a new year of breathtaking floral installations! We are thrilled to kick off 2024 with our first enchanting creation at Melrose – a collaboration that embodies the delicate balance of timeless elegance and modern charm.

This installation, going live at Melrose January 28th until February 14th was meticulously crafted by co-founder Hilary Sisolak, the visionary behind Wildwood. It sets the stage for a year filled with creativity and natural beauty. For this long-lasting masterpiece, we've chosen a palette of real touch blooms featuring roses, peonies, poppies, delphiniums, and more. The soft hues of whites, peaches, pinks, toffee, and cappuccino promise to infuse Park Hill Studios with an atmosphere of warmth and sophistication.

What makes this installation truly special is the exciting partnership between Hilary and Emily Santos from Pressed Petals – a collaboration that sparks anticipation and promises a fusion of botanical artistry. Emily, the founder of Pressed Petals, brings a unique touch to the project, capturing the essence of everlasting beauty through floral preservation.

Join us on this journey as we weave together Hilary's design expertise and Emily's passion for preserving moments into a tapestry that celebrates the vibrancy of life. As we unveil this stunning creation, we invite our local creatives, photographers, creators, and families to experience the magic that unfolds when art, nature, and heartfelt stories converge.

Understanding Floral Installations

A floral installation is more than just an arrangement of flowers – it is an art form that transforms spaces and elevates aesthetics. Co-founder and florist Hilary defines a floral installation as an artistic arrangement of flowers and foliage, skillfully crafted to enhance a space or convey a specific theme or message. What sets floral installations apart is their unique creation process, as Hilary prefers to build them directly in the space, allowing her to seamlessly integrate the design with the surroundings, playing off structural elements, textures, and colours.

Floral installations play a pivotal role in creating visually stunning atmospheres, capable of breathing life into any space, whether big or small. From subtle touches to immersive designs, flowers are used to set the tone and evoke emotions, turning a mundane environment into a captivating experience.

Delving into the impact on photography and content creation, floral installations bring a transformative effect to studio photography. The vibrant colours, intricate textures, and organic shapes of the flowers enhance the overall aesthetic, contributing depth and dimension to photographs. The interplay of light and shadows on the flowers adds to the artistic impact, allowing photographers to experiment with various styles and tailor settings to desired themes.

Floral backdrops, in particular, enhance visual storytelling in studio photography, providing a dynamic and visually captivating element. The juxtaposition of floral elements with subjects allows for creative narratives, while the versatility of floral arrangements enables photographers to explore a spectrum of styles – from minimalist compositions to lush, extravagant designs. In essence, floral installations become integral partners in the creative process, infusing beauty, diversity, and creativity into the visual narrative, ultimately transforming the viewer's experience.

Never cut people at their joints

Remember, one of our fundamental photography rules is to never cut anyone at their joints, whether it's their shoulders, elbows, hands, or knees, ensuring that every subject remains seamlessly integrated within the frame.

Promote interaction between your model and the installation

Encouraging interaction not only enhances the authenticity of the photographs but also fosters a harmonious integration of the subject within the overall composition, resulting in captivating and immersive imagery.

The rule of thirds is a rule for a reason…

Divide your frame into nine equal parts with two horizontal and two vertical lines. By placing key elements along these lines or at their intersections, you create a visually balanced and engaging composition, drawing the viewer's eye to the focal points of your image.

Try different shot types

A simple pose can be transformed dramatically when shot from wide versus tight angles, showcasing the versatility and creative potential inherent in photography. By experimenting with different angles you can uncover unique interpretations of your subjects.
